In 1946, shortly after the war ended, A, Wade Wells wrote and published a book dedicated top the myth and history of the mighty Jeep.
It was prefaced by the following poem by Pvt. Jesse Wolf – Location: Somewhere in Belgium
Titled “A Soldier Says” This short piece was an accurate indicator of the soldiers’ admiration for this vehicle.
When the war was at it’s hottest and the going got too steep, One pal that I could count on,Was the mighty little Jeep.
Through beachhead hell, through fire, Our metal mounts would leap With strictly GI courage; I won’t forget the Jeep
And now the war is over. The one thing I will keep For farm and field and hunting-That’s my buddy Willy Jeep.
You do wonder if this was really contrived by the PR department at W-O or if was genuine. Regardless, it echoed the sentiment that continues to this days among loyal owners of all things Jeep.
