While most people in the world have heard of Fidel Castro and associate him with being the dictator of Cuba and a cigar smoking connoisseur, few are aware of his committment to the Willys Jeep for his military. Cuba had hosted a Willys South American Convention several times beginning in 1955; it was after the overthrow of the Batista regime early in 1959 that the Revolutionary party held its own convention in August of that year. Little is documented about this period, but through a photo documentary, officials are seen with the Willys sales force from the USA and other South American Nations. These photos depict the field testing, classroom presentations, parts repositories and social events of the event. Fidel is shown reading a Willys Jeep service manual and observing testing.
